説明 | Geelong Gaol. 202 Meyers St. This prison, based on the Pentonville London style of prison with tiny separate cells, radiating wings, and separate wings for different kinds of prisoners. It opened in 1853 and was in use until 1991. It housed over its 138 years not just criminals but also youth offenders, military detainees etc. Until a female prison opened at Coburg in Melbourne in the early 20th century it houses both male and female prisoners. It is Victoria’s most intact 19th century gaol. |
