This is a premium variety of custard appleA fruit stall on the road to Devgiri/ Daulatabad selling Hanumanfal. Calling it Hanuman Sitafal, my taxi driver- guide was waxing eloquent over the suberb taste and quality of this fruit and saying that it has hardly any seeds inside. Hanumanfal is a premium variety of sitafal or custard apple which is a recent agricultural innovation. It is actually a cross between two fruits - annona squamosa (sitaphal) and the annona chiremola (cherimoya), developed in Miami, USA a few decades ago. It has started to spread in India only in the last 10 years or so. The area around Aurangabad/ Daulatabad grows a lot of this Hanumanfal. I did take a few home ot Pune and boy were they tasty! Even my mother who makes a big fuss to even eat a few pips of the regular sitafal (custard apple) finished off half of a large Hanumanfal in one sitting!
