説明 | The Botanic Gardens contains the walk of the busts of all of Australia’s Prime Ministers since 1940, magnificent exotic trees and flower beds. Beside it is the historic tram ride. The gardens provide 40 hectares of horticultural treasures including weeping elms planted in 1863. Established in 1858 the gardens were laid out in the 19thC gardenesque style. It is also home to the former Prisoners' of War Memorial. In 1884 a local stockbroker Thomas Stoddart donated twelve Italian marble statues located throughout the gardens and in 1887 the Statuary Pavilion was erected to house the 'Flight from Pompeii' and four other marble statues donated by James Thompson. |
