説明 | Directly behind the arch to the erstwhile palace of Adil Shah, inside the compound of the Church of St. Cajetan in Old Goa (see previous pictures earlier in this album), this little bit of plinth is all that remains of the former palace of Adil Shah. The palace was called Idalcaon Palace by the Portuguese. It was abandoned during the 17th century plague and was later demolished in 1820 on orders of the Portuguese Government. Stones and debris from the demolished palace were carried to the city of Panjim for building houses. The arch gateway (see previous pictures earlier in this album) is all that remains of the grand palace today. The artistic pillars of the arch are made of basalt while a stone lintel adorns the top. The entire structure lies on a raised platform. Pictures of the stone arch and detailed notes about the erstwhile Adil Shah palace appeared earlier in this album. (see previous pictures).
