説明 | The rocks at lower right are granitic gneisses and migmatites of the Idaho Springs Formation (late Paleoproterozoic, 1.7 billion years). The rocks at upper left are tilted, hematite-rich conglomerates, arkoses, and sandstones of the Fountain Formation (Pennsylvanian-Permian). 1.4 billion years of missing time are repesented at the unconformity.Unconformities are surfaces of erosion and/or non-deposition of sediments. Examples with sedimentary rocks overlying igneous or metamorphic rocks are called "nonconformities".Locality: Red Rocks Park, west of Denver, north-central Colorado, USA |
