説明 | Built in 1960-62, this Modern and Collegiate Gothic Revival-style building was designed by Barber and McMurry to house the University of Tennessee’s Physics Department. The building was named in honor of Alvin H. Nielsen in 1980, whom had been the head of the Physics Department between 1956 and 1963. The building features a red brick exterior, side gable roof with an entry tower with a crenellated parapet, a gothic arched portal with a modernist bronze sculpture mounted on the facade above, aluminum windows, limestone trim, and wall dormers on the front facade. The building houses the University of Tennessee’s Department of Physics & Astronomy. |
