説明 | Built in 1903, this Classical Revival-style house was built for A. Percy Lockett, eventually becoming home to the Knoxville First Church of Christ, Scientist in 1929, which moved out of the building in 1977. In 1979, the building became home to the Lord Lindsey restaurant and nightclub, which closed in the early 2000s, and has sat vacant since that time. The house features a hipped roof with a cornice featuring modillions and dentils at the eaves, a two-story corinthian front portico with a front pediment, attic fanlight window, and fluted Corinthian columns and pilasters and a coffered ceiling, a front facade with few windows an an entry vestibule with fluted doric pilasters, a broken pediment over the double entry door, dentils, and festoons, six-over-six double-hung windows, arched double-hung windows on the second floor of the facade, with the interior of the front wing of the house having been largely gutted in 1929 when the house was converted into a church, creating a large two-story space with a balcony at the perimeter and a stone tile floor. The building has been vacant since Lord Lindsey closed, and has been for sale since 2009, when the previous owner, Kristopher Kendrick, died. The building, while weather tight and secure, having deteriorated on the exterior with peeling paint and missing trim elements. It is unknown as to when the building will be sold or what its future holds. |
