| 説明 | Silciclastic sedimentary rocks in the Jurassic of Utah, USA.The upper cliff-forming unit consists of eolian sandstones of the Navajo Sandstone, a thick, Mesozoic-aged unit representing ancient sand dune deposits. The coloration is from hematite (Fe2O3 - iron oxide). Laterally-equivalent units are known by other names, but are all the same deposit: Glen Canyon Sandstone, Nugget Sandstone, and Aztec Sandstone. The irregular slopes below the Navajo are redbeds of the Kayenta Formation, a mixed siliciclastics unit of mostly fluvial origin (= deposited in river systems). The lower cliff-forming unit in the left background at and above the road and railroad is the Wingate Sandstone. Like the Navajo, the Wingate has eolian sandstones - the rocks are ancient sand dune deposits.Stratigraphy: Navajo Sandstone over Kayenta Formation over Wingate Sandstone, Glen Canyon Group, Lower JurassicLocality: view from Corona Arch Trail, next to the Colorado River & west of the town of Moab, eastern Utah, USA |
