| 説明 | "Jasper" is a reddish-colored, opaque, cryptocrystalline, quartzose rock. The reddish coloration is from hematite (Fe2O3 - iron oxide). The term "jasper" is also used by rockhounds and lapidarists for many types of non-reddish rocks. The surfaces of this rock are naturally abraded and polished by wind-blown sand. The small blister-like structures are botryoidal jasper. Rockhounds refer to this type of rock as "red grape agate", in reference to the grape-like shape of the small surficial pustules. This material is not agate.Geologic context: unrecorded / undisclosed (but possibly from a Jurassic-aged stratigraphic unit - maybe the Curtis Formation or the Summerville Formation)Locality: unrecorded / undisclosed site in Utah, USA (but possibly from the San Rafael Reef - San Rafael Swell area of eastern Utah) |
