| 説明 | Sandstones in the Jurassic of Utah, USA.These are eolian sandstones of the Navajo Sandstone, a thick, Mesozoic-aged unit representing ancient sand dune deposits. The Navajo is a prominent cliff-forming unit in much of western America. Laterally-equivalent units are known by other names, but are all the same deposit: Glen Canyon Sandstone, Nugget Sandstone, and Aztec Sandstone.The rails are part of Union Pacific Railroad's Cane Creek Branch, a section of tracks built in 1964 that extends a few dozen miles from Crescent Junction, Utah and ends at the Intrepid Potash Mine (see: www.flickr.com/photos/rwolf/49282884778). The mine produces potassium chloride from the Pennsylvanian Paradox Formation, a deep subsurface, evaporite-rich unit.Stratigraphy: lower Navajo Sandstone, Glen Canyon Group, Lower JurassicLocality: railroad cut next to Corona Arch Trail, just north of Bootlegger Canyon & just east of the Colorado River, west of the town of Moab, eastern Utah, USA (38° 34' 28.11" North latitude, 109° 37' 52.58" West longitude) |
