| 説明 | The Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park.These amazingly beautiful mountains rise up from the surrounding volcanic and other plains. The ranges are rugged with sandstone ridges tilted at various angles and outcrops of tough granite. The weathered ranges consist of two parallel ranges which stretch for about 100 kms. These rocks formations were laid down about 380 million years ago. The highest peak is Mount William at 1,167 metres (3,800 feet). The Grampians abound with waterfalls and it has large fertile basins between the ranges. In 1984 167,000 hectares were gazetted into the Grampians National Park. Today the Brambuk Aboriginal Cultural Centre in Halls Gap is run by Jardwadjali and Djab Wurrung people. 50% of the park was burnt out in the 2006 bushfires but it has now regenerated well but in January 2014 another major bushfire erupted in the park and the northern half of the park still remains closed to tourists. Lake Wartook in the centre of the Grampians is a major water storage area for surrounding towns like Stawell and Ararat etc. A number of creeks and rivers have their origins in the Grampians and many end up flowing into the Wannon River which we have visited. The Wannon flows into the Glenelg River. Many of the creeks of the Grampians on the eastern side flow into the Hopkins River which finally reaches the sea at Warrnambool. |
