説明 | This is a now-inactive rail line in Muskingum County, Ohio that was formerly used by Ohio Central Railroad. A nice, long section of the Lower to Middle Pennsylvanian Pottsville Group is present along the tracks. Since the railroad became inactive, vegetation has overgrown much of the section. Occasional mass wasting events occur, resulting in fresh exposures. In the past, the railroad would clear out rock debris from mass wasting. Since the line became inactive, landslide piles have remained where they are. In this photo, a landslide at right (in the shadows) has bent the tracks. This line used to haul coal from Zanesville to the Conesville power plant, which is now closed.Locality: Rock Cut railroad cut - Ohio Central Railroad tracks, ~southwest of Copeland Island & south-southeast of the town of Dresden, northern Muskingum County, eastern Ohio, USA (~vicinity of 40° 04’ 24.41” North latitude, ~81° 59’ 11.25” West longitude) |
