説明 | Hydrangea macrophylla 'Dooley' 7/2022 Bigleaf E1- (Dirr, 1996) Bigleaf Hydrangea, Mature plant size: 5-6ft., Mophead Blue or pink, USDA Hardiness Zone 5, Michigan Bloom Month 6, In Garden Bed E1 for 3.8 YEARS (Almost). Planted in 2018.This mophead type hydrangea was found in the backyard of University of Georgia Football Coach Vincent J. Dooley by Dr. Michael Dirr after a cold winter that left most hydrangeas bloom-less. Reportedly cold hardy to -11 F. Dirr named and introduced this plant in 1996. Unfortunately, it is quite susceptible to mildew. And, unlike some of the newer hydrangea introductions, it only blooms on old wood. Unlike most other H. macrophylla cultivars, ‘Dooley’ plants set flower buds at each node and will accordingly often bloom in summers where other macrophyllas lost flowering buds to harsh winter temperatures.Photo by F.D.Richards, SE Michigan.
