| 説明 | Church of St. Peter & St. Paul., Ermington Devon dates from the late 13c / early 14c with 15c additions. Some fabric from the earlier Norman church may still survive. It consists of chancel with north & south chapels, nave, north and south aisles, porch, The 13c west tower is topped by a 14c tall twisted spire considerably out of the perpendicular, said to have been caused by lightning, and reassembled in 19c .The 13c nave & 14c chancel is "all in one" with no chancel arch between. The chancel screen is Jacobean carving. supported by moulded balusters, surmounted by a plain cross. www.flickr.com/gp/52219527@N00/5E99qqAisles were added in 15c. www.flickr.com/gp/52219527@N00/Fq75o4At one time a remarkable feature here was the position of the altar, which stood some six or seven feet away from the chancel wall and was surrounded by a massive Jacobean balustrade of oak. This has been removed and the altar placed in its usual position at the east end of the chancel. In the north aisle chancel chapel is a brass showing the kneeling figures of William Strachleigh 1583, wife Anne Golde / Gould & their only child www.flickr.com/gp/52219527@N00/2KZYdu placed by Anne after the death of her husband. Originally nearby was the large ornate tomb now in the south Lady chapel www.flickr.com/gp/52219527@N00/7Y36J8 which now commemorates William, Anne, daughter Christian & son in law Christopher Chudleigh and was probably an older Easter Sepulchre revamped by William on the death of his son in law in 1570. .
