説明 | Enrolling in the Northridge schools in second grade, Betty Pollitt Thompson recalls fondly her penmanship classes and later Mr. Riffle, the teacher with eyes in the back of his head. Active as a student, she participated in Hugh Sauers band, played both field hockey and basketball, and had lead roles in the high school musicals. Betty graduated from Northridge High School in 1951, and her younger siblings followed herBob (54), Paul (56), and Janet (67).Her professional skills are many, and Betty has taken on many different job situationsreal estate sales, key punch operator, school bus driver, nurse, industrial counselor, drug and alcohol counselor, and author. As a nurse, she specialized in psychiatrics and assisted in nursing homes. She later became an industrial counselor working for Delco Products and Green Hall in Xenia, Ohio in drug and alcohol abuse. Passing the state board exam in 1982, she formed her own personnel placement services for nurses who assisted directly the patients family physicians, worked in home nursing, helped in staffing nursing homes for special needs clients, and gave paramedical exams for insurance agencies. Also, in 1982, she owned two businesses in the Oakwood areafirst opening Dayton-Xenia Nursing and Health Care and then adding Nursing Associates. In 1984 Betty seized an opportunity through the American Diabetic Association to head up the Dayton Diabetic Chapter and saw local services grow quickly.Betty is the proud parent of four childrenDeborah Phillips (1953), Mark Phillips (1956), Michael Thompson (1960), and Brian Thompson (1961). She also speaks proudly of her three grandchildrenTracey, Mark, and Matthew.Betty Thompson and actress/model granddaughter Tracey Back have co-authored a wonderful bookA New Beginning: All About Modeling Motivation and Beauty Pageantsthe book serves as a guide to the modeling world and offers universal principles for life fulfillment. Subject issues include self-esteem problems, negative perception, personal decisions, and behavior choices. The book strives to teach methods for improving self- image and working for a life full of joy and success.Betty Pollitt Thompson proudly accepts this Hall of Fame honor and looks forward to meeting staff and students of the Northridge schools. |
