| 説明 | Leeds to Liverpool Canal (Leigh Branch)I wrote yesterday that there is a large car-park at the entrance from the fire-station end of Pennington Flash. When I went, however, I entered from the canal towpath. The Leigh Branch of the Leeds-Liverpool canal runs from Wigan, past the Flash, to Leigh town-centre shortly afterwards – at which point it becomes the Bridgewater Canal. So I didn’t use the pay-and-display car-park, I left it at a small dirt car park close to the Lift-Bridge on Plank Lane on the opposite side of the canal (where we’ll be tomorrow). Instead of making my way immediately along the towpath towards the Flash I crossed Plank Lane and took photographs, from both sides of the canal, of moored canal-boats. I then wandered around the Marina to explore, before resuming my original intention to walk the mile or so to the Flash.Along the way, there were plenty of things to see – more moored canal boats; some nice new houses; a swan on her nest with her partner keeping guard; a pair of Mandarin ducks (plus a Eurasian male Teal duck); joggers and cyclists – all before I reached the canal bridge that marks the entry-point that I used to visit Pennington-Flash. |
