The team actsas a liaison between the fire and police department duringtactical operations and provides emergency medical care to sickor injured civilians and police officers in situations wherestandard medical personnel are not equipped to operate.""The AFD Tactical EMS Team currently consistsof 15 tactical paramedics specially trained to treatwounded officers and civilians in hazardousenvironments such as drug interdiction, hostagenegotiations and barricaded subjects. The teamsupports the Akron Police Department SWAT teamand the Summit County Bomb Squad. The TEMSmedic role is to provide immediate treatment toinjured persons during high-risk law enforcementoperations, provide the scene commander with amedical threat assessment, and promote thesafety and health of law enforcement personnel" |
