説明 | City buildings in Aberdeen, 10 April 2022. These three are situated on Rosemount Viaduct and comprise the Central Library, Saint Marks Church and His Majesty's Theatre.His Majesty's Theatre was opened in 1906, was designed by Frank Matcham, has a seating capacity of 1,400 and the building is Listed Grade A. Just visible on the far right is the 2005 completed copper and glass extension.Saint Marks Church is a highly impressive building, completed in 1892 to the design of Alexander Marshall McKenzie. The Central Library was promoted by public subscription from 1889 and opened on 5 July 1892 by Andrew Carnegie, who with his wife had contributed around a fifth of the total cost.The three buildings are sometimes locally known as Education, Salvation and Damnation.The theatre was one of only two in the world that did not change its name to Her Majesty's Theatre whilst Elizabeth II was on the English throne, the other being in Perth - Australia. |
