説明 | Never before has the Northridge Hall of Fame had an inductee with an aka, but this year we do. John Damewood, also known on the radio as, John King, has had a successful career in broadcasting for many years. He worked his way up from an Air Personality at a local station, like WIZE in Springfield, Ohio, to his current position as Senior Vice President of Operations for Regent Broadcasting Management in Covington, Kentucky. Born in 1950, John is a 1968 graduate of Northridge HS.John studied at the International Broadcasting School, the Sterling Institute of Management, and is a graduate of the Don Beverage Sales Excellence program. In addition, he attended Wilmington College in Wilmington, Ohio.John has over thirty years in broadcasting and has worked all over the United States. He was an Air Personality at WJLS/WBKW in Beckley, WV; WCHI in Chillicothe, OH; and WIZE in Springfield, OH (1972-79). In Dayton he worked as Operations/Program Manager for Great Trails Broadcasting, WING/WGTZ (1979-1985).With each move in broadcasting, John took on new challenges. He was Program Director at Gateway Radio Partners, L.P., WKKX-FM, St. Louis, MO (1985-90) and later at Capstar Communications, Inc. WSSL-FM Greenville, SC (1990-91). John was VP/Programming, VP/GM, Regional VP, Senior VP, and Regional President at Capstar, SFX, AM/FM, and Clear Channel, in Nashville, TN (1991-2001); President/South East Region at Citadel Communications Corp., in Las Vegas (2002-06); and Senior VP of Operations at Regent Broadcasting, in Covington, KY.John was honored as General Manager of the Year, by Radio and Records Magazine (1995) and was named General Manager of the Year, by the Country Music Association four times in the 1990s. In addition, he received the Master Class Award Research Group (1992) and is a two-time winner of the Marconi Award from the National Association of Broadcasters.In addition to being a private pilot, John likes to be active in the community. He served on the Country Music Association's Board of Directors. He was also a two-term president of the Nashville Area Radio Association, a member of the Board of Directors of the Tennessee Radio Association, and a member of the Board of the Bellevue Community Church in Nashville, TN.Find something to do that you are passionate about, that's fun and intrigues you, then try to do it better than anyone else, is John's advice. John married Sandra in 1991, and they have a son, Johnny, born in 1993. John describes Sandra as a stay-at-home mom, but goes on to say that "she has the hard job. Johnny is a freshman at Oakwood HS, and he has played hockey for eight years. This fall he plans to play for the Dayton Bombers Midget travel team. |
