| 説明 | A memorial service was held in Albany, Western Australia on August 28, 2020 to honor U.S. submariners who died defending Australia during World War II. The submarine tender Holland and five submarines arrived in Albany on March 17, 1942, with a total of 31 submarines visiting the port in months ahead. The U.S. Navy submarines paid heavily for their success in the war, with a total of 374 officers and 3131 men on board 52 submarines still on "patrol". Consul General David Gainer joined current and former members of the Royal Australian Navy and the U.S. Navy at Albany's Princess Royal Fortress for the ceremony, which was followed by afternoon tea and a Ceremonial Sunset salute by visiting submarine HMAS Farncomb sailors. |
