説明 | Memorial to William “Bunny” Davis (1917-2001), whom was born in Perryville as the grandson of emancipated slaves from North Carolina, and was a successful athlete in the 1930s and 1940s as a teenager and young adult, later becoming the owner of a successful Moving and Storage business in Danville, as well as being active in local politics, serving as Mayor Pro-Team for ten years, and as a doorkeeper for the Kentucky House of Representatives for 28 years. An expert baseball player and athlete, Davis was inducted into the Kentucky High School Sports Hall of Fame, and played for the Lexington Hustlers, the first integrated baseball team in the southern United States, and was the first black umpire in the Southeastern Conference. Following his successful sports career, he was an active business owner and political leader in Danville and Boyle County, and was inducted into the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights’s Gallery of Great Black Kentuckians for his accomplishments. |
