| 説明 | Conglomerate & sandstone in the Permo-Triassic of Arizona, USA.These are rimrocks atop a canyon wall in Arizona. The lighter-colored rocks below are cross-bedded and horizontally-bedded quartzose sandstones of the Permian-aged De Chelly Sandstone (pronounced "De Shay"). Most De Chelly sandstones are ancient desert sand dune deposits. The darker-colored rocks above are the Shinarump Conglomerate, an Upper Triassic, fluvial, coarse-grained siliciclastic unit. It consists of quartzose sandstones, pebbly sandstones, and lithic conglomerates. The De Chelly-Shinarump contact is a significant unconformity - an erosion surface representing missing time. There are several types of unconformities - this is a disconformity, which has sedimentary rocks over sedimentary rocks, with parallel bedding geometries ("flat over flat").Stratigraphy: Shinarump Conglomerate Member, lower Chinle Formation, Norian Stage, Upper Triassic disconformably overlying De Chelly Sandstone, Leonardian Stage, Lower PermianLocality: view from Antelope House overlook (Navajo Fortress overlook), northern rim of "Canyon del Muerto" (= Canyon of the Dead), Canyon de Chelly National Monument, northeastern Arizona, USA |
