| 説明 | The Vertijet was an experimental VTOL jet which first flew in December 1955. Two were built and were intended to demonstrate that a jet could take-off vertically, transit to horizontal forward flight and then return to vertical flight for landing. Although they were successful in their intended purpose there was no operational requirement for such a machine and they were both retired in September 1957.This is the first of the pair and is on display at the Gillespie Field Annex of the San Diego Air and Space Museum.
