説明 | c/n 13508Built in 1960 as a Britannia C.1 for the Royal Air Force with the British military serial XM496. Served jointly with 99 and 511 squadrons, first at RAF Lyneham and later at RAF Brize Norton, from where 99 squadron currently operate the C17 Globemaster. The RAF Britannia fleet was retired in 1975 and XM496 was sold off in January 1976, becoming a Britannia 253. She became G-BDUP on the British civil register that March and was then sold on to Afrek in May that year. She flew with Afrek until July 1984 when she was traded through Monarch who sold her on to Aerocaribbean in Cuba, where she became CU-T120. In January 1993 she moved to Africa and flew with Transair Cargo, first as 9Q-CJH and later as EL-WXA. She was stored at Lanseria, South Africa, in March 1997 before being sold for preservation in October 1997. She flew in to Kemble on the 14th of that month, making the final flight of the type. She has since been repainted into her original RAF Transport Command colours and is cared for by the Bristol Britannia XM496 Preservation Society.Cotswold Airport, Kemble, Gloucestershire, UK.25th September 2021 |
