説明 | A journey along the Vale of Rheidol on 26 July 2014.Returning to Aberystwyth the VofR runs for the last half a mile very close to the main line railway from Shrewsbury, a largely single track route. At Aberystwyth, formerly with three platforms and numerous sidings, all that remains is the single track and a loop where trains can be recessed and the locomotives run round. Seen here is a Pathfinder excursion train from Bristol, to which it will return at 1600. The locomotive is a Class 37 diesel, released from the Vulcan Foundry near Warrington on 2 January 1964 and first allocated to Landore depot in Swansea. Then numbered D6917 it was later renumbered as 37217 under the first British Railways computerised system, TOPS, and acquiring its present designation as 97304 when fitted with ERTMS signalling equipment for working the Cambrian line. |
