Buried ye 12th December 1555"Anthony was the third but surviving son & heir of Thomas Lowe 1451 - 1521 of Alderwasley Hall & Joan Fowne 1456–1532 daughter of Thomas Fawne & heiress to Alderwasley. He was also standard-bearer and a gentleman of the bed chamber to Henry VIII, Edward VI and Queen Mary.Henry Vlll on 22nd June 1524 appointed him hereditary forester of Duffield Frith; It is also said that because of a wound to his head, he was allowed to keep his head covered in the king's presence The Lowe estates were augmented in 1514 when Henry VIII granted his father Thomas Lowe licence to empark Shining Cliff, former Fowne land in Alderwasley and again in 1528 when Anthony was granted the Manor of Alderwasley for a yearly rental and fealty.His estates eventually passed to his grandson, also named Anthony +++ In the mid 17c, the head of the family Edward Lowe, an ardent Royalist, petitioned King Charles I for compensation for the depredations of the Parliamentary troops during the Civil War. Lowe claimed he had lost property to the value of £2555 13 4d as a consequence of raising a troop of horse to serve the King. . This was captained by his eldest son and included amongst its officers Edward's other 5 sons. After the restoration of the monarchy, Edward's brother, John Lowe, again petitioned for compensation, this time through appointment as receiver and bailiff of Wirksworth .
