説明 | APG senior leadership traveled to APG South (Edgewood) for a tour of the Maryland National Guard Freestate ChalleNGe Academy, October 6. Some of the leaders on the tour included: U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM) commanding general and APG Senior Commander, Maj. Gen. Robert Edmonson II; director of the joint staff for the Maryland National Guard, Brig. Gen. Adam Flasch; APG Garrison Commander, Col. Johnny Casiano; CECOM Command Sgt. Maj. Kristie Brady; and the Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army for Maryland and President of the Maryland National Guard Freestate ChalleNGe Academy Foundation, Ms. Mary Jane Jernigan. During the tour, senior leaders got a firsthand look into the academy’s classroom instruction and leadership/followership training cadets and instructors typically undertake. APG senior leaders took advantage of the unique opportunity to interact and offer personal wisdom and guidance with the cadets, while discussing potential areas of program enhancement and innovation with instructors and administrators. Started in 1993, the Freestate ChalleNGe Academy gives Maryland teens who have withdrawn from high school a second chance at an education in a highly-structured and quasi-military environment. During the 22-week quasi-military residential program, cadets have the opportunity to earn their GED or equivalency. Photos by Troy Saunders, APG News |
