My photos are FREE to use, just give me credit and it would be nice if you let me know, thanks.The other end of lock number 3 of the Soulanges Canal is just about ready to break apart.Lock #3 is 85.34 X 1.83 X 65.5 meters (280X46X215 ft) and has a lift of 7.16 meters (23.5 ft)The Soulanges Canal was constructed between Lake St Louis and Lake St Francis on the north bank of the St Lawrence. The canals provided a by-pass of the Cascades, and rapids.The canal was started in 1891 and completed in 1899. The length was 24.14 kilometres (15 miles), and the depth 4.6 meters (15 ft). Five locks raised or lowered shipping a total of 25.6 meters (84 ft). |
