説明 | View of a group of 20 different type of German military aircraft removed by U.S. military forces from what is believed to be the Fritzlar Airfield near the town of Fritzlar in northern Hesse, Germany, in 1945 during World War II. The Americans had taken over this former Germany military airfield at the end of the war. Photograph taken while U.S. Army Lt. Robert J. Pleasants of Cary, NC, was serving as an assistant to the Food and Agricultural Officer with the U.S. Office of Military Government’s Kassel Governmental District’s Food and Agricultural Section. Parts of the caption on the back of the photograph reads: “Lots of money lost here in these planes. Good only for scrap metal now. “Here is a lot of money tied up in a futile, unjust, and wasteful cause” [circa 1945].From Robert J.
