説明 | Photograph of the Von Davies family and their housekeepers posing outside of their home in Kassel, Germany, on a Sunday sometime in 1945 during World War II. A wealthy German family owning a large domain near Kassel, the younger Mrs. Davies’ (wearing a hat) husband was a German military officer who had gone missing during the war, perhaps a prisoner of war in the Soviet Union. Photograph taken while U.S. Army Lt. Robert J. Pleasants of Cary, NC, was serving as an assistant to the Food and Agricultural Officer with the U.S. Office of Military Government’s Kassel Governmental District’s Food and Agricultural Section. It is thought he knew the Von Davies from one of the women working at the government offices with the Americans [1945]. From Robert J. Pleasants Papers, WWII 73, WWII Papers, Military Collection, State Archives of North Carolina, Raleigh, N.C. |
