説明 | Gritney soils are found on upland ridges and side slopes. They are very deep and moderately well drained. They have a brown loamy surface layer. The subsoil is clayey. The upper subsoil is yellowish brown while the lower subsoil is mottled in various shades of brown, red, and gray. These soils are commonly saturated at depths of 1.5 to 3 feet during the wettest months of the year. Gritney soils formed in fine-textured sediments. Many areas of Gritney soils are used for cropland, hay, and pasture. In forested areas, loblolly pine, white oak, southern red oak, red maple, hickory, and sweetgum are the common trees. The common understory plants are American holly, flowering dogwood, sassafras, sourwood, and waxmyrtle.Photo by John A.
