説明Monument to George Morewood (1719-1792) of Alfreton Hall Apparently Nikolaus Pevsner thought this was the only thing of merit in the building.George Morewood was the surviving son & heir (of 3 sons) of Rowland Morewood 1753 who built Alfredton Hall in 1725 & Mary Wigley of MansfieldGeorge was the grandson of John Morewood, owner of the Alfreton estate & 2nd wife Barbara Palmer The Morewoods had links to coal miningAged 49 George m 1768 Ellen aged 27, daughter of Richard Goodwin of Ashbourne having 1 child who died shortly after birth. After George's death, Ellen inherited the estate and went to court to defend, unsuccessfully, her mining rightsShe m2 Rev Henry Case who took the name Morewood, and continued to live at Alfreton Hall for the next 30 years. Ellen died in 1824, and Henry died in 1825. The estate was left to Ellen's nephew William Palmer of Ladbroke Hall, son of Charles Palmer & Anne Goodwin (Ellen's sister) . William Palmer took the name Morewood becoming William Palmer-Morewood 1863 William m 1815 Clara daughter of Sir Charles Blois, 6th Bart. and Clara Price of Cockfield Hall, having 2 sons & 2 daughters,.
