説明 | c/n 10804Built in 1945 with the US military serial 44-69972. In 1951 she joined a radar calibration unit and was named ‘Doc’, the units seven aircraft each being named after one of Disney’s seven dwarfs.In 1956 she became a range target at China Lake, California, and remained there until 1998. First civil registered in 1994 as N6735C with the National Museum of Naval Aviation, she became N44697 in 1998 when she was moved the short distance to Inkoyern for the US Aviation Museum. She was reregistered again in July 1998, becoming N69972, her current registration. In 2000 she was dismantled and moved to Wichita, Kansas for return to flying condition. After a mammoth 15 year restoration, including work by over 150 volunteers, she flew again on 17th July 2016. She is now operated by Doc’s Friends, an organisation which exists purely to keep her in the air.In all her majesty, she is seen displaying at the 2019 Guardians of Freedom Airshow.Sheppard AFB, Wichita Falls, Texas26th October 2019 |
