説明 | The coastguard station lies on the traditional site of a fort belonging to Barrach, one of the Red Branch Warriors, who features in the tale of Deirdre and the Sons of Uisneach.Sleacht Bharraigh, Barrach’s grave is the name given to the passage tomb on top of Greenanmore to the West.On the summit of Carnanmore to the South-West lies another, almost intact, passage tomb with decorated roof slabs. It was during the agricultural Neolithic Period, 4,000 – 6,000 years ago that great stone (Megalithic) tombs were first erected in Ulster. They are the most striking and enduring monuments of the countryside. The largest and most spectacular are the passage tombs, in which a burial chamber in a circular mound was reached by a passage. |
