| 説明 | We toured the Ruakuri Cave, which is part of the Waitomo Cave system. The name Waitomo comes from wai (water) and tomo (hole or shaft): There are 300-plus mapped caves in the area: the three main caves are the Waitomo Glowworm Cave (which doesn’t allow photography of glowworms), the Ruakuri Cave (which does allow photography), and the Aranui Cave (which doesn’t have glowworms as the necessary humidity is lacking). Tickets for all three caves, and the Black Water Rafting experience are available at a central visitor center. The Ruakuri Cave is the longest guided underground tour in New Zealand. The tours cover a mile of the 4 2/3 mile long cave. The path is wheelchair accessible. It has many limestone formations, underground streams, and (of course) glowworms! |
