説明 | The incoming Socialist government in the UK after WWII ended sent a bunch of Nene engines to the Soviet Union- A present to brothers at arms, saving all that fooling around with spies and the like. Amazing. Shortly thereafter, the MiG-15 appears with their copy of the Nene. Not the sexy straight through compressor like the BMW and Jumo jets the Germans had built, and the descendants of which were in the F86... Still, the MiG was faster and flew higher, there must have been at least adequate performance from this "old" design.I have never known if the RR Nene was a "Neyne" or "KneeKnee", after some British river I've never heard of, or whether it was "Neyney", the indigenous Hawaiian goose. IF I really was worried about it, I guess I could look it up.Compared to reverse engineering the B-29, this might seem pretty easy, but it was not, even for a nation with the metallurgy skills of the Soviets. MiG 15 engine, reverse engineered RR Nene. Centrifugal compressor.Champlin Fighter Museum 1994 |
