説明On your next hike...Pick one piece of trash (like this beer can # 1).If you like, pick two! (like this beer can # 2).Most trash on hiking trails is non-organic, dry, almost weightless, small sized, non-toxic, non-smelly :)and it doesn't bite! so don't be scared! :)Go ahead and pick it up!--The trails in our Western Ghats and our Himalayas do not have dedicated government or private resources to keep them clean. You see a lot of trash on your hikes and I KNOW it bothers you(no human being likes ugliness). If you just pick up ONE piece of trash on your next hike and get it down to a proper disposal place, it is more than enough to keep the trail clean (imagine all the hikers doing this and it adds up :)). My ecologist friends can write long essays and have even longer discussions on plastic waste, how even throwing bio-degradable waste in these sensitive areas is bad, impact on the local wildlife, etc. I'm no ecologist and all their research and discourse has been interesting to me but at the end of the day, my reason is simple aesthetics: trash looks so ugly eww so I should try to clear it up! I want to see our trails be kawaiiiii again :).--Some things from the Internet that I've liked:1. Small actions add up when done by many many people.natpacker.com/take-only-memories-leave-only-footprints/"If everyone takes a single pebble of a beach, it will not take long for that beach to disappear. If everyone left rubbish on the top of a hill, soon the hill will be much bigger."Good part is this effect applies to small positive acts too :) - so do not be disheartened when you see a lot of trash, pick one piece n get it off - it makes a sure difference!2. Your actions are not in a void - other humans are going to imitate you. www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/iceland-tour..."it's a herd mentality. Some guy went up there many years ago and wrote his name. He was an Icelander, and by doing so he started it. One pair of footprints can motivate thousands to follow."Good part is this applies to positive acts too :) - so when you pick one piece of trash n get it off - others will see and imitate you and soon we will have much cleaner trails for everyone to enjoy.3. Treat mountains gently.www.downtoearth.org.in/interviews/environment/-we-need-to..."We also need to treat mountains gently and with respect whenever we go to them. It should be a very different attitude from what existed in earlier times when we considered the outdoors, the environment as a resource to do whatever we felt like. That is an attitude that has to change. There are so many people who want to enjoy the outdoors and I think they should. The point to remember is that we have to tread lightly on the environment."4. Public lands hate you - you need to work very hard now to make public lands fall in love with you again.www.publiclandshateyou.com/geotagging"Nowadays, everyone has access to all of these amazing places with just a few clicks on the computer or swipes on their phone. They see a beautiful picture of a swimming hole say “that looks amazing, lets go!”, click on the geotag, find the location, maybe buy some basic gear on Amazon, get a basic trail map on an app, and off they go after doing minimal, if any, research. Many of these people haven’t acquired the corresponding outdoor ethics that will allow them to be responsible users of our public lands. Although these people may not break the rules and damage our natural wonders with malicious intent, the damage is done all the same","Share ethically taken photos that SHOW responsible actions. Share important information about how to treat the place with respect. Share what people can do to improve the place and leave it better than they found it. A shared picture captioned with a John Muir quote, song lyrics, or a shoutout to your wannabe sponsors just doesn’t cut it."Frankly, the whole website is great <3! I know their tone may be a bit harsh (using the word "hate") but - the issue of Instagram influencers and their sponsors and the damage they are causing seems pretty serious there in the US, and sometimes, harshness is needed.5. If Sir Edmund Hillary can be humble enough to accept his mistake of littering the Everest and change his behavior, you can too! Be like Hillary \m/!youtu.be/2e58ZJm7GLg?t=381"We weren't any different when we started.""We left empty oxygen bottles in South Col, and higher up in the mountain.""But as time has passed, I've become an enthusiastic environmentalist and now I regret the fact that we started this procedure of leaving all those residue on the mountain."PS:On a side note, I was so blown away by how much passion he put in the word 'loved' when he said the below."We LOVED the mountains." Oof, true love indeed.
