説明 | Anorthosite from the Precambrian of Quebec, Canada.Anorthosite is a coarsely-crystalline, intrusive igneous rock dominated by plagioclase feldspar. Pyroxene and other minerals are often present in minor amounts. Anorthosite is an uncommon rock on Earth, but is abundant on the Moon.The sample seen here is a dark brown anorthosite with labradorite/bytownite and minor pyroxene. It is from the Lac St. Jean Anorthosite Complex, which was emplaced during or just after the Grenvillian Orogeny, an ancient mountain building event that occurred about 1.1 billion years ago.Geologic unit: Lac St. Jean Anorthosite Suite/Complex, late Mesoproterozoic, 1140 to 1157 MaLocality: unrecorded locality at or near Lake St-Jean (Lac St-Jean), central Grenville Province, southern Quebec, southeastern Canada |
