説明Per Wikipedia:The Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial is a United States presidential memorial honoring Dwight Eisenhower, the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe during World War II and the 34th President of the United States. On October 25, 1999, the U.S. Congress created the Eisenhower Memorial Commission, and charged it with creating "...an appropriate permanent memorial to Dwight D. Eisenhower...to perpetuate his memory and his contributions to the United States." A preliminary design by architect Frank Gehry proved controversial. After several years of hearings and several design changes by Gehry, final design approvals were given in 2017.Located to the south of the National Mall on Independence Avenue SW, the memorial is set in a park-like plaza, with large columns framing a mesh tapestry depicting the site of the Normandy landings, and sculptures and bas-reliefs arrayed in the park. Sergey Eylanbekov sculpted the bronze statues and stone bas-reliefs called for in the Gehry design. The sculptures include representations of Eisenhower in settings as a young man in Kansas, as Supreme Allied Commander in Europe, and President of the United States. The memorial's tapestry artist is Tomas Osinski, and the inscription artist is Nicholas Waite Benson. After more than a decade and a half of planning and revisions, Congress appropriated $150 million to the memorial in 2017 and on November 2 of that year, dignitaries held a groundbreaking ceremony at the four-acre site in Washington (DC).The dedication ceremony was initially scheduled for May 8, 2020, the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, but was postponed to September 17, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.DSC5271
