| 説明 | One of the buildings forming the Dolmabahce Palace complex, Besiktas, Istanbul, Turkey, 29 October 2009. The Palace was completed in 1856 to replace the Topkapi Palace and served as the main administrative centre of the Ottoman Empire until 1887 and again in 1909-22. The last Sultan vacated it when the Caliphate was abolished in 1924 from when Ataturk used it as his summer presidential residence until he died there in 1938. The huge expense of the palace made a major contribution to the Ottoman Empire defaulting on its public debt in 1875. The Palace was built on reclaimed land on the Bosphorus where the Ottoman fleet had anchored. It is the largest palace in Turkey and it’s architecture is a curious mixture of Baroque, Rococo, neo-Classical and Ottoman styles. The architects were Garabet Amira Balyan and his son Nigogayos Balyan. |
