説明 | Creator: Unidentified.Location: Brisbane, Queensland. Description: 'Evzone' soldiers marching in Brisbane. 'Zonnysthai' in the ancient times meant forearming. Evzone, thus, is the well-armed man (Information taken from: Greek traditional costumes - flags and banners, retrieved 28 July, 2003, from )Detachment of 30 Greek soldiers heading a parade of military services through the city of Brisbane on Greek Day, 19 March 1941. Greek Day was held throughout Queensland to raise money for the Greek Distress Appeal during World War II. This appeal aimed to raise money for the people of Greece who had successfully thwarted an invasion from Italian troops during the Second World War. The Greek soldiers marching in the parade were Evzones, officers and men who had served in the Greek Army. They marched in the bright national dress of the white kilted Evzones, wearing red caps, blue tunics, and black tasseled shoes. Jim Lathouras (fourth from left) is marching in the parade.
