説明 | The greenish areas are malachite mineralization in central Utah's Salina Canyon. This rock (float) was adjacent to a striking angular unconformitiy. Copper-bearing fluids moving along the contact resulted in patchy mineralization in fractures both above & below the erosion surface. Bluish-colored azurite is also present at the site. Crack surfaces of this piece show the vein is cored by black material - chalcocite?Malachite is a hydrous copper carbonate mineral, Cu2CO3(OH2). See: www.jsjgeology.net/Malachite-Azurite.htm and www.flickr.com/photos/jsjgeology/albums/72157668004906840Locality: near old copper mine, Salina Canyon, southeast of the town of Salina, Sevier County, central Utah, USA |
