| 説明 | Notes: a large tree fern (Cyathea australis) stands next to the waterfall.Linda Falls is a waterfall on Linda Creek below Lila Falls and Sylvia Cascades and above Margurite Cascades. It is named after Linda Florence McKillop (1877-1918), daughter of Duncan Cyril and Elizabeth Henrietta McKillop. First mentioned in the Sydney Mail 11 Feb. 1893 as being discovered by Duncan McKillop. Location: Federal Pass, Leura. Flickr has improved its mapping and now shows named waterfalls, hooray! Format: dry gelatin glass negative, Imperial half plate 6 ¼” x 4 ¾"Licensing: Attribution, share alike, creative commonsRepository: Blue Mountains City Library bmcc.ent.sirsidynix.net.au/client/en_AU/default/Part of: Local Studies Collection PF 1989Provenance: the Tony Brown Collection, purchased for Blue Mountains Library by former Councillor Tony Brown (? -2009)Date Range: if the the mature tree fern we see here has fallen as shown in the photos below and been washed away in a flood or broken down by the fallen tree or both, the date is pre 1910.The tree fern is unlikely to have grown to this size since 1910 and photographed on a glass negative. A fern of this size is as least a century old and more like two. See link for growth rates of Cyathea australis. The Federal Pass was opened in November 1900 (see link) which would be the earliest date for a large, glass plate camera to capture this photo. The area appears relatively unimproved with no seat or built up sandy terrace: date range is 1900-1910.
