| 説明 | This outcrop is on the northern flanks of the Uinta Mountains, a range in the Middle Rockies (Central Rockies) of northeastern Utah. These mountains formed during the Laramide Orogeny in the Late Cretaceous to early Tertiary. The rocks are structurally-tilted, Paleozoic- & Precambrian-aged sedimentary rocks.The grayish cliff at top & upper right is the Deseret Limestone, a Mississippian carbonate unit having common dissolutional voids. The dark reddish rocks below are Neoproterozoic redbeds of the Uinta Mountain Group. The Deseret and Uinta Mountain Group are in fault contact here - the slanted, light-colored, scree-covered slope conceals the Uinta Fault Zone.Stratigraphy: Deseret Limestone (= Madison Limestone, sensu lato; Osagean Stage, upper Lower Mississippian) over Hades Pass Formation (informal; Uinta Mountain Group, mid-Neoproterozoic, ~770 to 740 Ma)Locality: Sheep Creek Canyon (view from Forest Service Road 218/Route 1370), west of Route 44 & south-southwest of the town of Manila, Ashley National Forest, northern flanks of the eastern Uinta Mountains, northeastern Utah, USA |
