| 説明 | Another Crab- eating macaque on the rocks- don't you simply love the way he is examining his foot? I am on the Phi Phi Islands tour by speedboat just off the island of Phuket, in Thailand. We have just made a long-ish stop at Maya Bay- filming location of the 1999 Hollywood film The Beach and are now on our way to the next stop on the tour- there are six stops in all. Our boat suddenly stopped very close to a cliff to let us take pictures of a handful of monkeys on the rocks. Now I'm not sure of the name of this stop- tourist brochures talk of a Monkey Beach- but this is not a beach even by the wildest stretch of imagination, Some brochures refer to a Monkey Bay. Whatever, the monkey seen here is a Crab eating macaque. In Thailand, the species is called Ling s̄æm which literally means mangrove monkeys because it lives and forages in mangrove forest.
