| 説明 | A fabulous Thangka painting depicting the life of the Buddha. I bought a copy of this painting- I loved it- and duly framed, it now hangs proudly on my bedroom wall in my house in the western Indian city of Pune (Poona). This magnificent specimen is ib display in the Thangka painting school in the Bhaktapur Durbar Square in Bhaktapur, Nepal. Tibetan Buddhist painting developed from widespread traditions of early Buddhist painting styles of which now only a few survive in sites such as the Ajanta Caves in India and the Mogao Caves on the Silk Road in Central Asial. These ancient Buddhist paintings were very elaborate and colourful, and in fact served as the repository for what are now the earliest surviving Tibetan paintings on cloth. The Thanka form of art developed alongside the tradition of Tibetan Buddhist wall paintings, which are or were mostly in monasteries. (Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Nepal, Oct/ Nov 2019) |
