説明Another brilliant Thangka painting in the Thangka painting school in the Bhaktapur Durbar square in Bhaktapur, Nepal. Now I am not particularly religious, and do not know anything about Tibetan Buddhism, so I am not in a position to tell you which god or goddess this represents. Judging from the fact that he/ she has a garland of human heads and is sitting on a ball of fire and riding a snake, I can only assume that this is a relatively less violent version of the Hindu goddess Kali, who is usually depicted in eastern India as a blood thirstly vampire preying on humans. Now what kind of a crazy goddess is that? And people actually prey to her. Ouch! Be that as it may, back to Thangka, this style of painting incorporated many elements from Han Chinese painting, especially from the 14th century onwards, reaching a peak in the 18th century. One aspect of this was allowing more space and emphasis to the landscape in the background. In general the style of figures in Thangka painting remains derived from the Indo- Nepalese tradition. However, according to Giuseppe Tucci, (an Italian Orientalist, Indologist and scholar of East Asian studies, specialised in Tibetan culture and history of Buddhism) by the time of the Qing dynasty, a new Tibetan art form then developed, which in a certain sense was a provincial echo of the Chinese 18th century's smooth ornate preciosity (meaning excessive refinement in art, music, or language). Since the Yuan dynasty, Tibet was administered as a part of China, but when the Qing dynasty came to power court interest in Tibetan Buddhism increased, and many refined and elegant works were produced by Imperial artists and sent to Tibet, thereby influencing local styles of paintings prevailing in Tibet at the time. As well as the court style, there was influence from the regions of China near Tibet. (Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Nepal, Oct/ Nov 2019)
