説明 | Welcome to the Bhaktapur Durbar Square. Immediately after the magical sunrise views over the Himalayas at the sunrise point at Sarangkot, near Pokhara, Nepal (see previous pictures earlier in this album), we stopped briefly for breakfast at our hotel and them went on to the Bhaktapur Durbar Square. Bhaktapur (also called Bhadgaon or Khwopa) lies in the eastern portion of Kathmandu Valley. At the heart of this ancient city is the Bhaktapur Durbar Square. Many of the narrow streets around the Bhaktapur old town converge onto this square where the royal palace of the Bhaktapur Kingdom was once located. The monuments and temples around the site represent the history and traditions of medieval Nepal. Everything around Bhaktapur still looks as it did during its heydays in medieval times. In fact, Bhaktapur is among the most intact ancient cities in Nepal. It was also given the distinction of being listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. Well, intact here probably means still untouched. Many of the ancient temples and buildings here are far from intact in fact, as they suffered extensive damage in the devastating 2015 earthquake, some of them having collapsed completely.
