| 説明 | Structually tilted sandstone in the Cretaceous of Utah, USA.This is an outcrop of the Frontier Sandstone (Frontier Formation). The rocks in this area have been tectonically tilted - the beds are steeply dipping to the south. The Upper Cretaceous Frontier Sandstone is a coarse-grained, shallow water marine to shoreline unit. Marine deposits of Cretaceous age are widespread in western North America - they represent sedimentation during a sea level highstand. At this time, global sea level became so high that an ocean called the Western Interior Seaway separated eastern and western North America. The Cretaceous transgression was a result of relatively rapid seafloor spreading rates (tectonic divergence) in some oceans basins. This lifted considerable portions of the seafloor, which raised global sea levels.Stratigraphy: Frontier Sandstone, Upper CretaceousLocality: Fossil Discovery Trail, western Dinosaur National Monument, northern Uintah County, northeastern Utah, USA (vicinity of 40° 26' 16.81" North latitude, 109° 17' 59.46 West longitude)------------See info. at:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinosaur_National_Monument------------Geologic map of Dinosaur National Monument:pubs.usgs.gov/imap/1407/plate-1.pdf |
