説明 | Santichon or the Yunnan Chinese Village on route 1095 on the way from Chiang Mai to Pai is touristy no doubt but the landscaping is nice and you can safely ignore the goofy bits in view of the overall picture. The gazebo or summer house at the far end is interesting, and so is the gold pillar at the far right with a dragon wrapped around it. The Santichon Yunnan Chinese Village was opened to the public on February 9, 2005 by Mae Hong Son deputy governor of the Pai region. Although rather goofy or kitschy in parts, the Santichon Village is not like that everywhere, and so remains a centre where visitors have the chance to experience Chinese culture first hand. The village showcases replicas of traditional Chinese clay houses, (we will get to those shortly, as we go along) and there are also a few tiny shops made of mud and clay selling tea by the bag or by the pot. Tea-tasting sessions are also conducted in some of these shops, but I did not see any in operation. And at any rate, tea tasting had been thrown at me at almost anywhere I went in China during my trip there in 2017, so I was not really missing muc here. And now for the corny or goofy part- It is also possible to have your selfies taken wearing a traditional Yunnan dress. Many stores here run the dress rental service, and we will get there in a moment - bear with me as we go along. (Chiang Rai, north Thailand, Oct. 2018) |
